FIGHTING TO IMPROVE EDUCATION FOR EVERYONE

My mission is simple: provide local parents and leaders the ability to educate their students according to the needs of those within their community.

Serving the Diverse Educational Needs of Families

As a former math teacher and principal, I’ve had the joy and opportunity to directly observe and work with a countless number of students. As I served my students, I learned that every student is unique in their learning style, and that each student has their own educational needs. As a result, I adjusted my teaching style to help my students succeed. As a member of the State School Board, I want to use my educational background and implement this on a larger scale. I want to learn about the needs of each community, and empower local parents and educational professionals, allowing them to make adjustments for their students and giving them the ability to succeed.

Empowering Families in Education

Throughout my long career in education, I have seen first-hand, the dedication and commitment that each parent applies to their child’s education; nobody knows a child’s educational needs better than that child’s parents. Empowering families to share their voices can have a fantastic impact on education as a whole. I support Utah code 53E-2-201(1)(c), which reads, "Parents have the primary responsibility for the education of their children...” I am here to support you in this experience. As such, it is my responsibility to listen to, act for, and represent all families within District 10. Education policy should reflect the needs of families over the needs of the system. Your voice is imperative for making a difference in education.

Improving State Feedback

As an administrator, I have learned that feedback is crucial to student development. My goal is to enhance the feedback given by the State, enabling schools to continuously progress. Meaningful feedback gives schools the ability to make changes that not only improves communities, but also the education for each student.
